Leadership Transition and Achievements at the Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute
The Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute at Tehran University of Medical Sciences held a ceremony on November 5, 2024, to bid farewell to the outgoing head and welcome the new director .
Dr. Afshin Ostovar, the former head of the institute, highlighted his accomplishments during his tenure. He emphasized the establishment of an educational department, which brought structure to the institute's educational activities. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. ostovar noted that the institute managed to maintain its educational programs and even identify new opportunities.
The former head also discussed the successful merger of two diabetes clinics, which resulted in increased service diversity and a threefold increase in revenue. Additionally, he highlighted the implementation of a new electronic health record system, enabling the institute to establish a diabetes registry.
In terms of research, Dr. Ostovar expressed satisfaction with the institute's performance in the Razavi Festival evaluation and emphasized the successful negotiation of research agreements with affiliated centers. He also highlighted the institute's focus on large-scale population-based studies and its commitment to supporting research proposals.
Dr. Bagher Larijani, addressed the institute's members, acknowledging the challenges faced in recent years. He expressed gratitude for Dr. Ostovars's contributions and emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving the institute's goals. Dr. Larijani highlighted the institute's potential for scientific advancements and the need to invest in staff welfare and create a stimulating work environment.
